Kimberly Ovitz has collaborated with rock photographer & visual artist Myriam Santos for Spring Summer 2012 Campaign.

Argentinian born Santos, known for her dark imagery of rock starts such as David Bowie, Ozzy Osbourne and Marilyn Mason stepped away from her music roots to shoot the OVITZ campaign in the company's new Tribeca New York studio.

The campaign visually encompasses the light side of both traditional dark artists.

"After recent events of the disaster in Japan, I became preoccupied with the thought of how people would recover after having gone through so much devastation and destruction." - Kimberly Ovitz

Inspired by the idea of contrasts - destruction vs. construction, man vs. nature, impermanence vs. permanence, disaster vs. relief - Kimberly Ovitz discovered the work of Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, hired previously by the Japanese government to assist in the relief efforts by building temporary housing out of transient materials such as paper, cardboard, and bamboo.

"Shigeru Ban creates no division line between indoor and outdoor space in his architecture.  His efforts to help aid during devastating times moved me as well as being further inspired by the intention, concepts, and materials implemented in his work."

The Kimberly Ovitz Spring/Summer 2012 Collection harnesses these ideals.  Fabrics include blends of raw materials such as Japanese paper and cotton contrasted with seemingly natural synthetics.  The color palette is a juxtaposition of fresh whites and muslins with rich tones of ferrous and rusted exterior walls that reflect consequences of industrial activity gone wrong and decaying surfaces, revealing an unexpected beauty in man vs. nature.

The Spring/Summer 2012 Collection keeps with the brand philosophy by combing timeless minimalism with modern edge and intellectual sex appeal.

Kimberly joins NYCLASS at New York City Hall Rally For Carriage Horses

Kimberly joined NYCLASS, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, Emmy Award winning actress Kathy Najimy and more than 50 supporters on the steps of City Hall, chanting “Hay, hay, we say neigh, horses off the streets today.”

At the rally,  NYCLASS celebrated 55,000 signatures collected on a petition calling for the City Council to pass Intro. 86A, which would eventually replace horse-drawn carriages with “horseless carriages”

The Problem: Horse-Drawn Carriages

The harsh reality of the life of a carriage horse working in New York City is no laughing matter.

They routinely work at least 9 hours a day, pulling a vehicle that weighs hundreds of pounds, on hard pavement, while breathing exhaust from cars, buses and taxis.  Unaccustomed to the urban environment, horses can be "spooked" easily and cause accidents that inflict great damage on vehicles, drivers and most often, the horses themselves.  There were six accidents in the Summer and Fall months of 2011 alone.

At the end of the day horses return to their tiny stalls in stableson the far West side of the city.  The cramped space doesn't allow these enormous animals to lie down or move about freely.  Nor are they afforded any turn-out or pasture time that equine veterinarians agree is needed for horses to live healthy lives.

After they work the busy and unsafe street of NYC, the carriage horses are sent to auctions in Pennsylvania where they can be - and are - sold to kill-buyers who transport the animals to Mexico or Canada to be inhumanely slaughtered for exported meat.

There are viable alternatives to carriage horses that will avoid the safety and quality of life issues currently faced by New York City's residents and its horses. NYCLASS has partnered with The Creative Workshop in Dania Beach, Florida to design and create fully electric, vintage-replica vehicles to replace the horse-drawn carriages. These electric cars can provide rides for tourists, offer jobs to workers currently in the horse carriage industry with the potential for higher wages, and maintain the historic and romantic feel of the tours.

Do Something Nice....Help Some Animals

Animal Haven Benefit at Norwood Club - November 2011

Animal Haven is a nonprofit organization that finds homes for abandoned cats and dogs throughout the Tri-State area, and provides behavior intervention when needed to improve chances of adoption.  Founded in 1967, they operate an adoption center in Manhattan and mobile adoption van. ASPCA & Kimberly Ovitz

I want to thank everyone for supporting such a wonderful cause last night.

It was great to be back in Los Angeles, see some old friends and raise awareness and funding for the lifesaving work of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (ASPCA.)

The ASPCA (http://www.aspca.org/) works to rescue animals from abuse, pass humane laws and share resources with shelters nationwide. I was honored to host the event and promote the protection of animals, something that I am very passionate about and hold near and dear to my heart.

When I was in process of getting dogs of my own, I DISCOVERED after I purchased one of my dogs online, that it had come through a puppy mill that was feeding dogs to that certain website.  I researched and found out so much more about what was going on with puppy mills and kill shelters and I became obsessed with helping.

I hosted the event last night so that I could bring my friends together to support the cause. Everyone had a good time while doing some good work…we enjoyed some cocktails by GREY GOOSE Vodka, bid on amazing silent auction items and got a good message from the ASPCA to go home with…animals are entitled to the same kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans.

To find out how you can help, please visit: aspca.org.
